Golf in Mighty Fraser Country
Within the golf destination of Vancouver, Coast and Mountains - the Mighty Fraser Country is becoming a renowned place to play golf. From Hope, Chilliwack, Harrison Hot Springs, Mission and Langley, you will find golf courses in all corners of the Fraser Valley.

In a province dramatically shaped by the powers of nature, and known the world over for the resulting beauty and scenic wonders, no natural force is more inextricably tied to British Columbia’s history and heritage than the mighty Fraser River.  From its headwaters high in the interior wilderness, along its tumultuous journey to the saltwater shore, the story of the Fraser is that of the province. From the awe-inspiring cauldron of Hell’s Gate to the tranquil eddies along the lower valley shore; past the vibrant and charming cities of Hope, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Mission; down the valley to its majestic passage to the sea south of Vancouver, the Fraser River has been the lifeblood of the communities that dot her shore.

In 1808, the Fraser River transported the area’s first European explorer, the fur trader Simon Fraser, on his voyage of discovery. One of the most productive salmon rivers in the world, its bounty has sustained countless generations. It has been the highway for the 1850’s gold rush and the tireless conveyor of the harvests of farm and forest.  Fort Langley was the first such European centre. Built by the fur trading giant Hudson’s Bay Company in 1827, Fort Langley became known as the “Birthplace of B.C.” when England declared British Columbia a colony in 1858.

And now, 140 years later, the fort is restored and the village of Fort Langley offers visitors a rare opportunity to step back in time. Nearby is the vibrant city of Langley. It remains true to the area’s rustic and rural roots, as it is known as the Horse Capital of B.C. And it is becoming renowned too as a memorable place to play golf.

The Redwoods in Langley, designed by Canadian golf course architect Ted Locke is one of the finest new courses in B.C. Charmingly reflecting the area, The Redwoods is a walkable championship course shaped through stands of stately trees that give the course its name.  And close by the area that the ancient Coast Salish people called “the healing place,” the world-famous Harrison Hot Springs, a new course by Canadian architect Russ Olson takes its name from the intriguing birds that flock to the shores of Harrison River. The Sandpiper Golf Club too is a beautiful walk on a challenging and enjoyable course. The Sandpiper is steeped in history, typical of the area. The course is built on the site of an early Hudson’s Bay Company fish saltery. The ancestral home on what became a farm – part of a land grant from Queen Victoria long before B.C. became a province – has been fully restored by the Pretty family that has owned the property since the 1920’s.

There is no more dramatically beautiful area in a remarkably scenic province to witness first-hand the natural power that shaped the region and to soak up some of the history of the Mighty Fraser Country, the history of B.C.
