Discover the Valley of the Eagles
(Mission, British Columbia) – Each year at this time British Columbia's Fraser Valley becomes the Valley of the Eagles as North America's third largest population of over-wintering bald eagles returns to the region. Arriving to feast on the remains of salmon spawning in the Harrison and Fraser Rivers, over 1000 of the majestic birds perch high in the cottonwood trees and soar overhead searching for their next meal.
The annual Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival celebrates not only the return of these magnificent birds but the rich and biologically diverse valley which continues to sustain them. At the heart of the event is the opportunity to view hundreds of bald eagles in their natural habitat along the Fraser and Harrison Rivers as well as a chance to learn more about the delicate balance that is needed to sustain a healthy and resilient environment.
From Mission to Harrison and Abbotsford to Chilliwack, numerous venues offer excellent eagle watching opportunities and a range of activities and adventures that include jet boat eco-river tours;a diverse abundance of local wildlife; environmental presentations, naturalists and interpreters; historic and ancient aboriginal sites; displays by local artists; family activities and entertainment.
Mission Council has declared November Return of the Eagles month.
With the valley's inspiring Coast Mountains, its lush rainforests, and stunning view of the mighty Fraser River as backdrop the Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival is the ideal opportunity to do just that.
